If you want to edit DVD video (VOB) which is MPEG-2, you need the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component. You can buy it from Apple www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2 for $20 USD. Definitely worth it, you can literally edit DVDs in mpeg streamclip, or convert the VOB to DV and edit in iMovie etc.
